The F1 inspired "mini-space shuttle" is powered by a custom V8 powerplant with earlier reports that the Atom 500 would use the RS Performance-sourced 2.4-litre 10,000 rpm V8 from the Caterham Levante proving inaccurate. Ariel will be producing its own custom engine, based on two Suzuki Hayabusa blocks but with a high proportion of custom parts, the engine alone is said to account for about £30,000 The Ariel Atom 500 also features carbon fiber panels and aerofoils, an integrated function steering wheel, F1 style wings, magnesium wheels and four-piston Alcon brake calipers.
Do I want a vehicle that I can call a mini-space shuttle with 500 horsepower that costs around £100,000. Yes, I do.
